What you’ll do:

Lead broker investment initiatives within the Aviva Canada business including:

  • Identify Corporate Development opportunities in conjunction with the various Regions.

  • Guiding business divisions in their role of completing broker investment transactions. Develop, communicate, and ensure adherence to the Canadian broker financing policy and investment standards.

  • This role will be part of the “Centre of Excellence” in M&A for Aviva Canada and manage the investment process from inception to completion including:

  • Conducting preliminary assessment and due diligence.

  • Financial modelling, valuation, risk analysis and deal structuring.

  • Present clear and concise business cases with relevant information to aid in the decision-making process.

  • Make recommendations and acquire approvals on cases from C-suite executives, as per policy.

  • Assist in Risk and other reviews, as necessary.

  • Negotiate key terms with brokers and coordinate completion of legal documentation.

  • Liaise with other internal team members and coordinate disbursement of funds.

  • Co-ordinate loan compliance activities, which may include:

  • Management of non-compliant loan situations.

  • Assessment of default situations and managing restructured loans.

  • Tracking and reporting portfolio profitability, yields and activity.

  • Tracking loan opportunity activity.

  • Extract, monitor and report to the Strategic Broker Investments Committee the broker investment portfolio results on a quarterly basis.

  • Identify, review and report to the regional and global collaborators on potential corporate acquisitions and related projects, including their strategic fit and identify any commonalities.

  • Ensure Group transaction business standard is followed on corporate acquisitions, joint ventures and disposals.

What you’ll bring:

  • Ideally, Finance / Accounting related university degree together with a designation

  • Strong relationship management and negotiation skills; customer centric approach

  • Strong financial management, risk & governance, operational improvement background

  • Prior lending experience with proven credit assessment is a plus

  • Advanced financial modelling skills

  • Experience in valuation and various capital structuring alternatives

  • Experience with acquisition or divestiture transactions

  • Knowledge of Mergers and Acquisitions, due diligence process

  • Project management capabilities

  • Good emotional intelligence and interpersonal discernment
